How we handle your data.

01What we collect

We collect the following when you use Talkative:

• Email address — to create and identify your account.
• Display name — chosen during onboarding, shown on the leaderboard.
• Country — used to personalise AI feedback language and tone.
• Voice recordings — recorded temporarily for transcription only; never stored on our servers.
• Session data — scores, transcripts, grammar feedback, fluency notes, and improvement tips from each practice session across all modes.
• Progress data — daily streak, longest streak, total sessions, average score, weekly minutes practised, and leaderboard ranking.
• Vocabulary entries — words you save from feedback sessions.
• READ progress — unit unlock status, lesson completion, pronunciation scores, and words-per-minute results.
• Exam date — optionally set by Pro users for the exam countdown feature.
• Subscription status — whether your account is on the free or Pro tier.

02How we use it

We use this data to:

• Provide AI-powered speaking feedback personalised to your level and background.
• Power all practice modes: Free Talk, Guided Topics, Role Play, BCS Viva Practice, BCS Live Simulation, Storytelling, and READ.
• Track your progress, maintain your streak, and generate your weekly report.
• Display your ranking on the leaderboard after 25 completed sessions.
• Generate your Speaking Profile after every 10th session.
• Enforce session limits on the free tier and manage ad-unlocked sessions.
• Deliver relevant ads to free tier users via Google AdMob.

We do not sell your personal data to third parties.

03Third-party services

Talkative relies on these services:

• Groq — processes your voice for transcription. Audio is sent securely and not retained after the transcript is returned.
• OpenRouter — receives your transcript (text only) to generate AI feedback, role play responses, weekly reports, and speaking profiles.
• Supabase — stores account info, session data, streaks, progress, vocabulary, READ progress, and subscription status in managed Postgres with row-level security.
• Vercel — hosts our backend API that processes feedback requests and manages session logic.
• Google AdMob — serves banner, interstitial, and rewarded ads to free tier users. AdMob may collect device identifiers for ad personalisation per Google's privacy policy.
• Expo / EAS — handles app builds and push notifications.

04Voice recordings

Your voice is recorded on-device and sent to Groq solely for speech-to-text transcription. Once the transcript is returned, the audio is immediately discarded from our systems. We do not store, archive, or share your recordings.

For READ mode pronunciation scoring, your voice recording is also processed on-device using Whisper before being sent for word-level alignment. The same no-retention policy applies.

05Leaderboard & public data

If your account completes 25 or more speaking sessions, your display name and average score become visible on the Talkative leaderboard to other users of the app.

You can delete your account at any time to remove your data from the leaderboard permanently.

Users who do not complete at least one session in a given week will not be shown on the leaderboard until they complete 5 sessions in the following week.

06Ads & tracking

Free tier users see ads served by Google AdMob. AdMob may use device advertising identifiers to serve personalised ads. You can opt out of personalised ads through your device settings under Google → Ads.

Pro subscribers do not see any ads.

We do not use any additional tracking, analytics SDKs, or behavioural tracking tools beyond what AdMob requires.

07Retention & deletion

Account data is retained while your account is active. You can permanently delete your account and all associated data at any time from your Profile screen. Deletion is immediate and irreversible.

Session transcripts, scores, streaks, vocabulary, READ progress, and leaderboard entries are all deleted immediately upon account deletion.

08Children's privacy

Talkative is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us data, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

09Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy as new features are added or legal requirements change. We will notify you of significant changes through the app. Continued use of Talkative after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
